Dear COES Families,

Our next PTO meeting takes place this Thursday, March 14th at 6:00 p.m. in Room 22. 

Please join us as we will be planning for our Spring Arts Festival taking place on Saturday, May 18 from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

If you are interested in serving on the planning committee for our Science Fair taking place in April, please join us prior to the PTO meeting at 5 p.m. in the Library.

A general information night for the Science Fair will take place next Tuesday, March 19 at 6:30 p.m. in the Multi-Use Room.

Dear COES Families,

The next two weeks will be short weeks due to Lincoln’s Birthday this Friday, and President’s Day next Monday. 


The Read-a-Thon is currently under way. Thank you for your support in helping solicit pledges for your child’s participation.

If you do not have a pledge sheet, you may pick one up in the office.


We are proud to recognize the many students (K-5) who have started completing ST Math (“Jiji Math”), Gr. 3-5 students who have completed System  44 (our upper grade reading intervention program), and individual grade levels for achieving teacher-created SMART goals in language arts and math. 

All throughout our school, students are demonstrating mastery of new concepts and skills, and we are honored to recognize their success during daily morning messages.

Dear COES Families,

Thank you to all of you who’ve donated Box Tops. Thanks to your support, we recently received a check for $738!

This goes to show that those Box Tops really do add up.

This donation will be used to purchase new library books. Thank you to everyone for your ongoing support!


In response to the school tragedy in Connecticut, NVUSD is taking proactive steps in ensure safe campuses:

NVUSD COMMITMENT TO SAFE AND CARING SCHOOLS

1. Our schools continue to be very safe places. We have strong partnerships with Community First Responders.

2. Effective emergency practices are in place, and being reviewed with staff, as contained in the School Response Emergency Guide (SERG), which is posted in every room at every school.

3. Please contact your school principal if you have any questions.

In addition to the District’s pledge above, Canyon Oaks staff recently reviewed our safety policies and procedures.

We conduct regular schoolwide emergency drills in an effort to react swiftly and safely in the event of a real emergency or threat.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding school safety, please contact the school office.

Dear COES Families,

I hope you all enjoyed a safe and restful holiday week off!

As you know, students are back in session this week through Friday, December 14th.

Winter Break begins Monday, December 17th through Friday, January 4th.

Students will return from Winter Break on Monday, January 7th, 2013.

In light of this brief school window, we will continue work hard in moving through our curriculum pacing and assessment calendar for Trimester 2.   

As we approach the Winter Break, we ask that families take an active role in providing daily learning opportunities for our students.  Daily reading, online learning games, and visits to the public library are just a few ways to keep students engaged with learning and maintaining academic progress to date.  Your child’s teacher may have additional ideas or suggestions that align with classroom activities.

Dear COES Families,

We hope you enjoyed a restful Veterans’ Day weekend.

There is no school next week!

Monday and Tuesday (19th & 20th) are district furlough days, and Wednesday through Friday (21st – 23rd) is the Thanksgiving Holiday.

Trimester 1 report cards will go home this Friday, November 17th.

Our monthly BEST assembly also takes place this Friday morning.


For those students participating in the Holiday Showcase, rehearsals begin this week.

Group B participants begin tomorrow (Tuesday), and rehearse again on Thursday.

Group A students rehearse only on Wednesday this week.

Kindergarten students will rehearse after school at 1:45 p.m. in either Room 26 or in the Multi-Use Room.

Students in grades 1-5 will rehearse from 3 – 4 p.m. in the Multi-Use Room.

Parent supervision is required for those students not participating in the Boys & Girls Club.

Each grade level will learn to sing at least one holiday song for the Holiday Showcase on Thursday, December 13th at the ACHS Theater.

Parents who expressed interest in volunteering for rehearsals are welcome to support Boys & Girls staff on your child’s scheduled days.


Last, a Movie Night originally scheduled for this Friday has been cancelled.

A future Movie Night will be scheduled later in the school year.

Dear COES Families,

Trimester 1 officially ended last Friday. Report cards will go home next Friday, November 16th.

Highlights for this week:

Tuesday, November 6: Election Day! Canyon Oaks hosts two polling stations for American Canyon residents in the multi-use room.

Polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m.

English Learning Advisory Committee (ELAC) meeting – 7 p.m. at Napa Junction Elementary, Room 4

The American Canyon Police Department will give a special presentation on gang awareness.

Tuesday is also the deadline for submitting permission slips for the Holiday Showcase.  See the link on the homepage for the informational letter.

Thursday, November 8th: P.T.O. meeting, 7 p.m. in Room 22.

Reminder: No school next Monday, November 12th in honor of Veteran’s Day.

Dear COES Families,

Thank you for joining us last Friday at the Harvest Festival.

We enjoyed a fantastic turnout and lots of fun was had by all!

A big THANK YOU goes to the numerous parent, family, and high school volunteers for making this event our best yet!


This Wednesday, October 31st, we will hold  our Kindergarten Halloween Parade around the Mighty Oak at 1:05 p.m., weather permitting. 

Students will be allowed to wear Halloween costumes to school this Wednesday. 

Please leave masks, toy weapons, and costume accessories at home. 

Tennis shoes must be wore for recess and for those classes having jazzercise.

ACHS Orchestra performs for Canyon Oaks students last Friday.

 

Dear COES Families,

The Harvest Festival takes place this Friday, October 26th from 3 – 6 p.m.

Students are encouraged to wear orange and black or green and gold to school on Friday. 

Students may return to the Harvest Festival dressed in their Halloween costume if they choose. 

Please join us for food, games, and fun for everyone. 

Food and game punch cards will be on sale for $5 each (10 – 50 cent “punches”).

Be sure to stop by one of two photo booths for a Halloween-themed photo for a discounted price. 

The Harvest Festival will be held rain or shine.  We look forward to seeing you on Friday!


This Monday through Thursday we are accepting used costume donations for our costume sale this Thursday, October 25th from 2:30 – 3:00 p.m. in Room 12.

Costumes will be available for sale for $3 each.

Students will be permitted to wear Halloween costumes to school next Wednesday, October 31st. 

 


This Friday is also our next monthly BEST Assembly. 

K-2 students will attend from 8:25 – 8:40, and Gr. 3-5 students will attend from 8:45 – 9:00 a.m.

Dear COES Families,

Parents of English Learners are invited to our English Learner Advisory Committee meeting this Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. at Napa Junction Elementary School, Room 4.

Again this year, all American Canyon schools will hold joint ELAC meetings, with Napa Junction serving as our location for all four meetings.

ELAC meetings will focus on ways to support English Learner students to become proficient in reading and math.  Parent involvement strategies will also be shared. 


Picture Re-Take Day is this Wednesday, October 17th. 

Students who wish to have their photo retaken will need to return their photo package on Wednesday.

Students who were absent during Picture Day last month will need to bring a photo package payment envelope when they have their picture taken.


This Thursday, Canyon Oaks will participate in the Great Shake-Out, a state-wide earthquake drill.

As part of our school safety plan, students participate in emergency drills once a month. This includes fire, earthquake, intruder, and teacher illness drills.

Our local American Canyon Fire Department will be on-hand during practice drills to observe and offer feedback to ensure students are participating in a prompt and safe manner.

Dear COES Families,

Thank you for your participation at Parent Conferences last week.

We hope you are better informed of your child’s academic program and learning objectives, including his/her progress to date.

While Parent Conferences are only held in the fall, we encourage you to contact your child’s teacher throughout the year with any questions or concerns you may have.

Email or contacting the school office are the best ways to get in touch with your child’s teacher.

We will get back to you promptly, and we’ll be happy to schedule a meeting either before or after school if that is preferred. 

We greatly value parent involvement in helping our students reach their full potential. Thank you again for your ongoing support!


We are gearing up for our annual Harvest Festival taking place on Friday, October 26th from 3 – 6 p.m.

There will be game booths, food, and fun as we celebrate the harvest season.

As part of our school spirit day, students are encouraged to wear orange andblack to school on Friday, October 26th. 

Students will be permitted to wear their halloween costumes for the harvest festival, but not during the school day on the 26th.

Halloween costumes will be permitted at school on Wednesday, October 31st. 

Costumes must be appropriate for school and no toy weapon accessories will be permitted. 

A kindergarten parade will take place on the 31st, with the time to be announced soon.

A follow-up letter will be sent home this Friday.
